Because I Have Time...I announces a contest!
NAME THE "DAY AFTER TOMORROW: XS STYLE" STORY!
Winner of the chosen title will be placed in the story. Not as a main character, but screen time will be given. ^^ Remember: I'm a CHACK writer, not a "Story of You" writer.
Here's the plot and the characters:
PLOT: Basically follows along The Day After Tomorrow, only from the point-of-view of DIFFERENT characters. While Jack Hall takes care of things on HIS end, Chase, Jack Spicer, and the others will work on things from THEIR weather center.
CHARACTERS:
Chase Young: Former assassin for China, he gave up the life, cashed in favors owed to him, got his science degree, married politician Wuya, and headed over to America to play with his favorite hobby: the weather; quickly worked his way up the ranks and is now the Director for the Climate Prediction Center; something of a playboy
Jack Spicer: 19-year-old Atmospheric Climatologist; studies air/weather circulation patterns; also a mathematical and technological genius, and Chase's naughty little office affair
Kimiko: Volcanologist, from Japan; as smart as Jack with computers and programming, she's well on her way to developing a volcano eruption prediction program; is very wealthy, a fashionista, and wants a relationship
Raimundo: Tornado Climatologist, from Brazil; bit of a player, but genuinely likes Kimiko, and is afraid of being found lacking; is working on figuring out how to maximize energy that can be harnessed from wind to give the people a clean energy source
Clay: Geologist, like DUH; from Texas. He plays with dirt, and has been working on an alternative fuel source for a few years.
Omi: Oceanography intern, also from China, which he attempts to use a lot to buddy-up to Chase, who is somewhat amused by it and allows it to a point
Wuya: Chase’s politician wife, a diplomat from China; theirs is an arranged marriage, they don’t love each other, just use each other for money, power, and occasional sex; she uses sexual favors to gain political favors in Washington, D.C. (shocking, right?)

BTW, while I like "Day after Tomorrow," the ending always leaves me unsatisfied. They gloss over what, to me, is an important point. The entire northern hemisphere is now supposedly covered with ice and snow. Perhaps as much as a third of the planet's population has died - and that's the good news! The bad news is that in the coming months, it's going to dawn on everyone that now most of the world's productive farmland is frozen over.
